ubliminal Messaging as a Therapy Tool
Today subliminal messaging is considered to be an invaluable resource in behavior modification. If the subconscious can be convinced that something is undesirable it will be able to relay the message to the conscious mind when the situation arises. To look at an example, say that an individual is undergoing rehabilitation for a substance abuse addiction. This individual may elect to participate in subliminal messaging, whereby a trained therapist will expose them to a series of brief messages that will extol the dangers and undesirability of that substance.
Once the patient has been exposed to this form of subliminal messaging their subconscious mind will be assured that the use of that particular drug is abhorrent. The next time they come into contact with that drug their subconscious mind will send a message to the conscious mind to give it a wide berth, regardless of how intense their body’s cravings may be.
This form of therapy has also been used to stop compulsive overeating, nail biting and other forms of destructive behavior. The bottom line is that if you have a habit you want to kick there’s probably a subliminal product out on the market for you. Visual images are not the only form of subliminal messaging currently in use. Many people choose to participate in an audio program instead, listening either to tapes and DVDs which repetitively emphasize a certain thought or action (often intended to be listened to while sleeping) or to media that have the messages cleverly concealed in the music or other material. For example, there are many who have speculated that heavy metal and rock music contain subliminal messages intended to encourage the listener to act in a manner that is the complete opposite of their own.
